Teen Develops App to Prevent Child Hot Car Deaths

Summary: Every year, dozens of small children are forgotten in cars. Sometimes a parent remembers and rushes back to the car, but sometimes they don't get there in time to prevent the child suffering harm. Seventeen-year-old Alissa Chavez has designed a car-seat alarm system and app to alert parents when they've left their child in the car. She's been working on this idea since she was in grade eight. "It started as a science fair project," Alissa tells As It Happens.
