The woman in the window / A.J. Finn.
"It isn't paranoia if it's really happening ... Anna Fox lives alone -- a recluse in her New York City home, drinking too much wine, watching old movies ... and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move next door: a father, a mother, their teenaged son. The perfect family. But when Anna sees something she shouldn't, her world begins to crumble -- and its shocking secrets are laid bare. What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? In this gripping Hitchcockian thriller, no one and nothing are what they seem."-- Provided by publisher.

Anna Fox is 38 and lives alone in uptown Manhattan. An agoraphobic who never leaves the house, she resorts to binge-watching noir movie classics, spying on neighbors, and drinking a lot of wine. Narrator Ann Marie Lee delivers the tightly wound heroine with precision, increasing her pace and raising her pitch when Anna believes she sees an act of violence in a neighbor's house. Lee makes Anna's struggle to remain sane in an insane world moving and believable. Revealing Anna's emotional backstory, Lee's performance swings from tense to depressed until the past and present intertwine, and nothing is what it seems. A.J. Finn's plot is filled with shocking twists and so many surprises that listeners shouldn't expect to relax for a second. S.J.H. Thriller readers and movie buffs alike will find a number of things to like in this dark and twisty noir, compellingly read by veteran narrator Lee. With the help of the zoom lens on her camera, Dr. Anna Fox lives vicariously through the lives of her neighbors. Her own life is on hold, perhaps permanently, after a trauma leads to crippling agoraphobia. Nearly a year later, she lives alone in her Brooklyn brownstone, her life reduced to the internet, voyeurism, and too much wine. One night, she witnesses a shocking event that threatens to change her safe, predictable life. Lee slows what might otherwise be a breakneck pace with measured deliberation that builds suspense almost unbearably before paying off in the final, revelatory ending. Solid work from both author and narrator make this particular audiobook highly recommended. And a film adaptation is already in the works, which should keep demand at a fever pitch.
